Given unlimited resources and access to whomever you’d want, what’s one environment-related change you’d like to see at your school?

I would like to see more courses, lectures, and events offered at the university that pay mind to the utility of contemplation in the presence of nature.  Examples of oral histories, writings and traditions that might provide  guidance for such an endeavor are provided by, but not limited to, the Navajo, Tibetan Buddhists, Trappists, Thoreau, Emerson, Gandhi, Whitman, Gary Snyder, and Arne Naess.

Earliest memory that made you realize, “yep, I care about the environment.”

My mother used to take me outside when I was a toddler and point to everything around me and explain what I was looking at. These were my first encounters with nature and, speaking from the perspective of an emerging constructivist, when I first noticed and cared about the environment.

What did you do on the night of the presidential elections?

Quietly watched the returns at home. Then, I thought about what to do next.
